Job Overview
The African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja is seeking a skilled Account Officer in the Bursary Department to strengthen our Finance and Accounts operations. This recruitment is critical to support the University's expanding financial activities and ensure efficient management of budgetary and accounting functions.
Primary Responsibilities
The candidate should be able to:
1. Help create annual budgets, track spending across departments, analyze budget variances, and prepare reports for management review.
2. Assist in preparing monthly management accounts, departmental reports, quarterly/annual statements, and maintain asset records with depreciation schedules.
3. Handle accounts payable/receivable, prepare journal entries, maintain general ledger, perform bank reconciliations, and process student fee collections.
4. Assist in maintaining accurate financial records using accounting software, support month-end/year-end closings, and provide backup support for various accounting functions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from a recognized institution
Three (3) years of relevant accounting experience in a reputable organization
Experience in an educational institution or public sector accounting will be an advantage
Technical Skills
Proficiency in accounting software, including Tally Prime, QuickBooks, and similar accounting applications, will be a great advantage
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and other MS Office applications
Strong understanding of financial reporting standards and procedures
Knowledge of budgeting principles and management accounting techniques
Familiarity with computerized accounting systems and financial databases
