Mechanical Engineering Program

The Mechanical Engineering program at the African University of Science and Technology (AUST) is structured to enable students to learn the basic and very-fundamental concepts of technical, computational, soft, research/problem-solving skills. In AUST – Mechanical Engineering department, students are trained to study and apply what is learned to solving indigenous and global problems – bringing into reality the perception, communication, invention and action that translate into products and services.

In the second year of our program, students are introduced/exposed to the rudiments of balancing theory and practice and prepare them for additional advanced engineering courses in their third, fourth and final years. We are keen at developing mechanical engineering skills that are very useful across a variety of industries – be it oil and gas, petrochemical, aerospace and material processing industries. Here is AUST’s mission! These make mechanical engineering graduates outstanding and help them become employable – giving credence to their problem solving and computational skills which is critical and is needed in solving peculiar Nigerian and African problems.

Our core areas of interest/research and mastery includes mechatronic, machine drawing, mechanical-computing, biomechanics, mineral processing, mechanical design and manufacturing. Research and teaching methods are aligned with the project-based learning (PBL) and the outcome-based education (OBE) methods. Classes are mostly available for in-person attendance and the option of virtual/online classes are also considered to ensure that our students are motivated to learn and most importantly, apply the knowledge for personal and national development. Our faculty are drawn from the core-mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, physical sciences, engineering design and economics. Some of the faculty in the AUST – Mechanical Engineering department are the following:

  1. Engr. Professor Peter Azikiwe ONWUALU – Professor
  2. Dr. David Oluwasegun AFOLAYAN – Ag. Head of department
  3. Dr. Odette Ngasoh ANYE – Lecturer
  4. Engr. Dr. Adedipe OYEWOLE – Associate Professor
  5. Engr. Professor Olufemi AGBOOLA – Professor
  6. Dr. Benjamin Ileh ATTAH – Visiting Lecturer
  7. Engr. Dr. Mrs. Esther ANOSIKE_FRANCIS – Visiting Lecturer
  8. Engr. Dr. Mrs. Blessing Nneka EKWE – Visiting Lecturer
  9. Engr. Dr. Emmanuel ONCHE – Visiting Lecturer
  10. Engr. Samuel ADEIZA – Visiting Lecturer
  11. Engr. Dr. Mrs. Gina CHUKWU – Visiting Lecturer
  12. Engr. Dr. Mrs. Itohan OTOIJEMU – Visiting Lecturer
  13. Engr. Dr. Kingsley ORIESEKEH – Visiting Lecturer

The mechanical engineering department is delighted to welcome new students into the program. Students with 5 O’Level credit pass – English language, Mathematics, Physics and chemistry, and passed the entrance examination organised by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) can apply to study. Similarly, the department is open to transfer and direct entry students. Students with credit in the Higher National Diploma (HND) can apply to start their program from the third year.
