Vacancy Position: Assistant Librarian

The African University of Science and Technology (AUST), located in Abuja, Nigeria, is a private, not-for-profit Pan-African University which offers only post-graduate programs in selected fields of Science and Engineering, with almost all it’s funding being in the form of grants and open-competitive research funding from International organizations. In a bid to expand its services, the university, seeks the services of an Assistant Librarian with one or two years post NYSC experience as a Librarian in a university environment. This position is supervised as the successful candidate reports directly to the university librarian.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have obtained a good Bachelor's Degree in Library and Information Science obtained from any recognized university, with strong Computer Science background and must be a registered librarian with Librarian Registration Council of Nigerian (LRCN).

  • All Candidates must possess NYSC Discharge Certificate or Exemption Certificate or Certificate of Exclusion where applicable.

  • Candidates who are awaiting results need not apply.

  • Again, Computer literacy is required for this position.

Conditions of service

Both salaries and other practices is based on the Institution’s policy and operations but are very attractive.

Job Functions

  1. Performs all library services, acquisition, cataloguing & classification, circulation, reference, technical services, serials, weeding and reprographic services.

  2. Performs patron registration and transaction activities using online platforms.

  3. Processes new books, maintain circulation records and makes reserves on requested books.

  1. Manages library data and reports utilizing library software systems (OPAC and Repository).

  1. Renders research support to students, faculty and staff upon request.

  1. Trains and supervises library clerks and interns in their job duties.

  1. Renders professional and satisfactory services to all library users.

  1. Maintains the library as assigned by the Director or University Librarian.

  1. Responsible for the office assigned and all library materials put in his or her care

The successful candidate will not be limited to these functions but will be charged with other responsibilities as the need arises.
