ENI LAUNCHES 2020 AWARD IN RESEARCH FOR YOUNG TALENTS IN AFRICA

Eni, an oil and energy giant with headquarters in Italy has announced this year’s “Debut in Research: Young talents from Africa Award for 2020.

The Secretary of the ENI Awards, Giuseppina Scarlatella disclosed this in a release made avilable  to the AUST media services office.

According to Scarlatella, the award offers to four African students the opportunity to attend a Ph.D course in cooperation with prestigious Italian universities and research institutes supporting their research and innovation on the various scientific topics promoted by Eni award: decarbonization and energy transition, new energy frontiers and advanced environmental solutions.

In her words “ The Young Researcher of the Year award “ is presented every year to four researchers who were born in or after the year 1987 and is reserved for students who are recent graduates from an African university or African citizens who recently graduated from any other university”.

The Young African Talents award, was established in 2007 on the 10th anniversary of the Eni Award and was given to young talent from the African Continent and have become internationally recognised over the years in the fields of energy and environmental research.

The purpose of the award is to foster the emergence of a new generation of African researchers, offering them the opportunity to pursue a PhD program in a collaborative environment involving work within Eni or other industry partners and a small selection of prestigious Italian universities and research Institutions.

The deadline for requesting an account and starting the registration process falls on November 8, 2019, no later than 5.00 p.m. CET (Central European Time). All required documents must be submitted by the final deadline of November 22, 2019, no later than 5.00 p.m. CET (Central European Time).

Interestingly, Miss Blessing Onyeche Ugwoke, who recently completed her M.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from our university, the African University of Science and Technology was selected for the “Debut in Research: Young Talents from Africa Prize” and received the Eni Award for Excellence.

The Eni Award has sometimes been dubbed “the Nobel Prize for Energy”. Her selection was largely based on the quality of her M.Sc. research work, with a thesis titled “A Study on Spherical Cap Bubble Transition Boundary for Bubbly to Slug flow”, under the supervision of Dr. Abdulkadir Mukhtar. The award was formally presented to her on 5th October, 2017 by the President of Italy at the Palazzo del Quirinale, the official residence of the Italian President.
