Celebrating Mandela Day

The African University of Science and Technology (AUST) in collaboration with the Nelson Mandela Institution and the South African High Commission, Abuja will, as has now become customary observe and celebrate this year's Nelson Mandela International Day. A series of activities have been planned and, according to the program made available, the events run from July 15 through July 18, 2016.

This year, a Skills Acquisition Centre to train the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in various skill sets that will enable them achieve self-reliance and sustainability here, and upon return to their various homes, will be offered by the collaborators as a free service.

Also featured in this year's event is the handover of a block of 6 classrooms constructed for the Camp, Book Reading, and a Football Match between a team made up of AUST and NMI personnel, playing against the IDP team. The first match takes place on our field, just outside the main AUST gate at 4.00pm on Friday, July 15, 2016 while the final match will be on July 18, 2016 with the other events at the IDP Camp.
