A Major Achievement By Our “Women In Science”

With great pride and joy, we share yet another major achievement by AUST students. Lois Okereke (PhD, Mathematics) Sandra Jusu (PhD, Materials Science & Engineering) and Hassan Zulaihat (MSc, Mathematics) have just received confirmation that they are among the winners of the recently introduced, highly competitive and highly coveted Mwalimu Nyerere African Union Scholarship for Women in Science, Masters and PhD Programmes in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM):
  • Lois Okereke is currently doing her research on Models and Algorithms for Inverse problems in Radiation Therapy Planning for cancer treatment. She was the best graduating student in Pure & Applied Mathematics in the MSc class of 2017.
  • Sandra Jusu, who also recently won the Moremi Initiative Leadership and Empowerment Development Fellowship, in which she was cited as “one of Africa’s most promising young women leaders”, is currently doing her research on Nano particles for control and targeted tumor drug delivery and treatment.
  • Hassan Zulaihat is currently studying to obtain her MSc degree in Pure & Applied Mathematics.

Given the limited number of scholarships available, for AUST to have been allowed THREE slots is a mark of great recognition of the quality of applications from AUST, as far as we are aware, no other institution in Africa got more than one or two awards.

A big “CONGRATULATIONS”! to all of you. You have really made us proud.
