Synthesis of nanomaterials (Graphene)

At the International Centre for Material Science Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research Bangalore India I work under the supervision of Prof C.N.R Rao the director of the ICMS. I work in the Nano Laboratory. Basically for my MSc thesis I work on the synthesis of nanomaterials (Graphene). A two-dimensional material with fascinating properties, using chemical vapour deposition. After synthesis of sinlge layer graphene we will also synthesize b-type graphene and n-type graphene by doping with both nitrogen and boron. We will also characterize all our samples with the various spectrometer, .i.e Raman spectrometer, Transmission electron microscope, Field electron scanning electron microscope, Atomic force Microscope and Xrd. Subsequently we study the properties and application of our samples.

Additionally, I attend a course on material laboratory. It is an experimental class where we are being shown how to synthesize nanoparticles of different sizes and shapes, i.e silver nanoparticles, gold nanoparticles etc. We are also taught how to probe surfaces and interfaces using different techniques such as XPS, AES, UPS, EXAFS, LEED, LEEM, SHG, SIMS, PES, ELS, HREELS, ISS, LEIS, MEIS, SEXAFS, STM, AFM, MFM etc.
